Basic Photography Workshop at The Enterprise

Just recently, I conducted a Basic Photography workshop exclusively for tenants and professionals working at The Enterprise Center in Makati.
I must say that I was overwhelmed with the response and number of people who attended the event. The organizers even had to add more chairs just to accomodate the number of participants who came.
A big thank you to all who attended the workshop. Indeed it was great to see that a lot of people, both young and old, are becoming more and more interested in photography.
I would like to congratulate Ms. Marianne Tirona, Events and Housekeeping Manager of The Enterprise for successfully organizing this event together with Sparkup Planners.
To Iris and Sykes, thank you very much for inviting us and giving us this opportunity. Sa uulitin!

Below we would like to share some of the photos taken during the event.

Scrapfest afterthoughts

The recently concluded Scrapfest must have been the biggest and most well attended from the previous Scrpafests. Coming from a participant and an organizer's point of view (I was a participant during the May 2006 Scrapfest and partly helped during the September 2006 and May 2007), I have seen how the number of attendees, suppliers and sponsors have grown. I'm honored to have always been a part of this event. All those who have helped are to be congratulated for a job very well done!
I was also very happy Ria and I were interviewed by Good Finds (to be aired at the Lifetsyle Channel). Hay, but it wasn't my best! Feeling showbiz hahaha! We were asked about Scrapbukan, its good finds, what we do as designers and what tips we could give beginner scrappers. We also had the chance to show our layouts wherein we have used the products from our kits! But what was really overwhelming was the fact that I saw my album side by side Angel Jacob (the host of the show) used as background during the spiels! I didn't give my album to Anne (I think she's the segment producer and writer of the show), the album was displayed at the booth of Scrapbukan that's why I was so surprised to see it in the middle of the table where Angel was delivering her spiels! I can't wait to watch the show! The episode featuring Scrapfest will be aired on June 7, 2007 , Thursday at 8:30 p.m. with replays on June 9, Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and June 11, Monday at 12:30 nn. Hope you can watch it.
Here's my Cherry Arte layout that I, unfortunately, wasn't able to finish for the Scrapfest!

Title: Wild Child

Materials used: Materials used: Cherry Arte Bolded (Bold Wash and Bold Stars), Cosmic Energy (Monkey in Space) and Chipboard (Labels) ,7Gypsies Boy Garcon and Numero stickers, buttons, beads, paint, vellum, Zig Writer pen, Gin X letter coasters (w, c and d) courtesy of Scrapbukan, Scenic Route chipboard letters (i, h and l), Colorbox and Stazon ink, DMS embroidery floss

Journaling (inspired from two peas in a bucket): Look at this sweet face. Doesn't look like the face of a Wild Child, does it? Oh, but behind that sweet and innocent exterior lies a mischief maker actively seeking his next adventure. What toy will he dismantle next? How many toy cars will loose its' wheels? What door to close and lock? What can he climb? How many frogs to chase? Will he tease the neighbor's dog or the stray cat? How many pebbles to get from the garden and bring inside the house? Don't let the face fool you. He is our certainly our Wild Child.

I am also sharing with you the five 6x6 SHE layouts I've made as part of the inspiration series for the participants. Layouts were inspired by quotes from the amazing ‘She’ book by Kobi Yamada.

I have only done two 6x6 albums in my entire scrapping life and I've never really been satisfied with the results. I have always scrapped in 12x12 format - 6x6 makes me feel so supressed! hahaha. Anyway, I really tried my best to make it look good. I was the last one who made one - the works of Phylline, Maybs, April, Nina, Iris, Ria, Ems and Joanne are all incomparable. Good thing I let them finish first so I could have all the ideas I need hahaha! To see all the SHE layouts made by these talented ladies, click here.

My layouts do not have lots of techniques but I made sure I was able to follow the core techniques prescribed per layout. On layout #1, we were to do hidden journaling using file tab. On layout #2, we have to do hidden journalling again (with hinge diecut from sizzix) and layering of daisy die cut. Instead of layering paper daisies, I used fabric flowers instead. I also used real door hinge here. On layout # 3, we were asked to do UTEE embossing but since I don't have that, I skipped that particular technique. We also have to use mount slides (die cuts from Sizzix). I don't have that die cut shape so I opted to use the real mount slides. On layout # 4, we were to do paper rolling and folding. I rolled the brown mulberry paper to make the flower stems. On layout # 5, core technique to do was paper weaving.

What I've been doing the past weeks ...

The past weeks have been very busy for Jeff and I. Jeff's doing a lot of work in the PC that I couldn't keep up with the number of e-mails I've been receiving. Ethan had fever for three days. After that he had cough, good thing it didn't really progress. He's very much okay now - back to bruises and wounds again! I, on the otherhand, had been busy doing some layouts for NSD, Scrapbukan, the Scrapfest and my client. I've had my most terrible migraines the past days too .. too terrible to tolerate. I wanted to die (seriously) even for a moment, if only it'll be gone after I wake up again. I tried scrapping but I really couldn't finish a lot.

I have not been true to my promise of making atleast 3 layouts a week. Instead, I can only make atleast one a week. Good enough, I guess, than nothing.

I'm sharing with you the ones I was able to finish.

Title: All Boy
This is more of an experiment actually. I was applying paint anywhere that I ended up messing up the page hehehe.

Materials used: Urban Lily - Urban Boy (Heath, Max, Seth and Romeo), Bazzill cs, buttons, Making Memories paint, metal photo corner, Colorbox ink and Zig Writer pen

Title: Love U 2
This is my last Fancy Pants layout for Scrapbukan.

Materials used: Fancy Pants Floral Chic (Heartthrob) (courtesy of Scrapbukan), cardstock, FP Biggest Board (Photo Fun and Flourishes), Scenic Route letter chipborad (letter
"u"), acrylic paint, bling, Zig Writer pen

Title: Zleeping @ the Zoo
I must admit this layout didn't come out as easy. I was trying to minimize the use of other materials other than those part of my Tinkering Ink kit from Scrapbukan. I only used one patterned paper and added mulberry paper as mat for the photo. What I love about this layout though was the fact that I was able to use my extra "z's" from different chipboard and plastic letters! Finally too, I have maximized the use of my Sakura Souffle neon green pen! I'm enjoying doodling sooo much!
Materials used: Tinkering Ink Westminster - Urban Grass, TI Monogram Letters, Westminster Finery (tag), American Crafts Typehouse plastic punctuation (@), Heidi Swapp plastic letters (Leeping and z's) - courtesy of Scrapbukan, Li'l Davis letter chipboard (Z), Scenic Route letter chipboard (z), Sakura Souffle pen - neon green, Sakura Gellroll pen - brown, mulberry paper, Sizzix Ransom Dies (the), brown acrylic pen
Title: No!

If there's one layout I'm truly proud of, this must be it. This layout was featured on NSD at Two Peas in a Bucket. Moreso, this LO emanates my style as a scrapper!

Materials used: Scenic Route White Line Background cardstock, SR Office Die cut arrows,SR letter chipboard, BasicGrey Scarlet's Letter (Pious and Revelation) and Flourishes rub ons, 7Gypsies paper and stickers (toddler), red cardstock, metal photo corners, hinges, Diamond glaze, buttons, Colorbox ink and Zig Writer pen

Nicole's 2nd Birthday

Nicole is our close friend, Iris' daughter. She celebrated her 2nd birthday last December. Oppss .. I know ... I know this has been long overdue. Talk about backlogs!

Anyway, we consider Iris, Bry and Nicole very special. Not only because they were friends but beacuse Iris was one of our very first clients. Jeff covered Nicole's 1st Birthday and since then Iris always have good words for us. She has always been supportive and would always extend a hand to help us with our business.

These are just some of the photos Jeff took during the party. I want to share with you layouts Iris made using the photos Jeff took during the party. As always Iris made a masterpiece out of those photos taken!

This is my favorite photo of Nicole. I love the title Iris thought of the photo. It's simply perfect!

Here are the rest of the layouts. All are stunningly beautiful!

And here's the niner layout Jeff made for Nicole.

Oh my gosh!!! I'm featured in Two Peas In a Bucket!!!

I couldn't believe my luck! I'm featured in Two Peas on National Scrapbooking Day!!! I have waited almost a month to break the good news to all of you, so please bear with my excitement!

Let me share with you the letter I received dated April 18, 2007 from Anne Langpap, a two peas Garden Girl!

Hi There! You have been chosen by our team to be highlighted on Two Peas in a Bucket in a special National Scrapbooking Day Feature! We are so excited to be featuring our users in several special events on May 5th, during our all-day National Scrapbooking Day festivities. We would like to highlight your gallery in our special feature, and want to make sure there are no objections to our doing so. There is no obligation on your part, there will be no claim made by Two Peas of your work. It is simply a way for us to point out Users that we have noticed and to highlight the wonderful work you have shared on Two Peas in a Bucket. If it is not permissible for us to highlight your work, please let me know. We will be selecting one layout from your gallery as the image we use to highlight your name and work. It will be the representation of you for this feature. If you desire, we would love to have a never before seen layout that we can use to highlight you and your work. Please let me know if you are not interested in participating. In any case, please consider this information and request confidential. We would like it to be a surprise to the other site users. We can't wait for National Scrapbooking Day! Thank you, Anne Langpap (Two Peas Garden Girl)

At first, seeing the subject title of the message made me think somebody wanted to give a nice comment on my layouts posted at the site. I have received messages through e-mail before from two peas and it feels good to be recognized by fellow scrappers from the other side of the world. Anyway, while I was reading this letter, my heart started to beat faster, my eyes popped (exaggerated ba?) and even if it was about 2:00 a.m. in the morning, I ran to Jeff and woke him up! Jeff and I read the rest of the letter together! After that, I was screaming (with my mouth pressed on the bed or else our neighbors might think I'm crazy!).

Me? Pia Lopez from the Philippines? to be featured at two peas? - The number one scrapbook site in the US? I must be dreaming!!! But hey, I'm not! It's true I will be featured! I don't really care if I'd be given a small space ... atleast for a day I was there ... featured on National Scrapbooking Day!!!

I immediately replied to Anne (but of course!) and here's what she said:

Hi Pia!

I’m so glad that we’ll be able to feature your work on National Scrapbooking Day. I came across your work in the gallery and was blown away. You are so talented!

It’s up to you which layout we will feature. If you’d like to create a new page for NSD, you have until May 4th to do so. If you want to use a page from your Two Peas gallery, that’s fine too. Whether you make a new page or use one that’s already in your gallery please put that layout in a private album and let me know what the layout id# is once you do so. You can find the layout id# in the web address. For example, the layout id in this web address (
http://twopeasinabucket.kaboose.com/pg.asp?cmd=display&layout_id=1019731) would be 1019731. J

I think that covers it. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask otherwise I’ll wait to here from you on the layout id#. Thank you for getting back to me!!

Take care,
Anne

And finally... it's May 5 in the U.S.! The moment I saw my layout and Anne's short write up -- I felt really ecstatic. I was teary-eyed and for a minute - stunned. I still couldn't believe it. This is indeed a blessing.

Fancy Pants Floral Chic Layouts

I finished these two layouts during the weekend as part of my kit from Scrapbukan! Yup, I finished them after co-DTs' Ria and Iris were all done with their three layouts. Oh I really couldn't keep up with fast scrappers like them! Hay! Di bale, eversince naman I am a fan of these two hehehe.

Title: Whisper a Wish

Materials used: Fancy Pants Floral Chic (Appealing), Sakura Souffle white pen and American Crafts Typehouse Plastic Punctuation (pink brackets) courtesy of Scrapbukan, black cardstock, local embellishments - burlap, velvet ribbons, butterfly charms, photo anchors, brads and fabric flowers, Zig Writer pen (black)

Doing this layout is both fun and difficult. I had fun doing the butterflies and using those local embellishments we bought from Divisoria (read Joanne'e article at Scrapbytes about this). But it was quite difficult too since I have to keep in mind that this layout is in a budget ; D. In case, you don't know, Scrapbukan Design Team members are required to come up with a budget layout in every kit. This is good because we challenge ourselves to come up with nice layouts within P150!
Guess whose ideas were the butterflies and the title? If you answer Jeff, you must be a close friend hahaha! Kidding aside, Jeff has always played a big role in my layouts! Without this guy, I would never have those beautiful photos! Oftentimes, I think that my layouts were good not because of the design but because they have beautiful photos. Hmmm... could it be that people see my layouts as good because they were drawn to it by the photos and not by the design? Hehehe... Just a thought.
The brad in each circle serves as a swivel to reveal the hidden journaling. Each circle has my wish! Whatever they are, I won't tell : D!

Title: Special Bond

Materials used: Fancy Pants Floral Chic (Merriment, Fairy Tale and Fabulous), American Crafts Greenhouse Foam Flowers (light blue) courtesy of Scrapbukan, AC Greenhouse Felt AC Rory large and medium felt flowers, Heidi Swapp plastic letters - All Mixed Up and Li'l Davis Journaling 2 Acrylic stamps, BasicGrey Blush (Delish), brads, All About Scrapbooking foam flowers, gold and red acrylic paint, Colorbox ink and Zig Writer pen (black)

Would you believe she's Ethan's grandma? Ethan calls her Mama instead of Lola though, she prefers that hehehe. I love this photo of them - genuine smiles they got there!
If you want to try these designs on your own layouts, visit Scrapbukan, the instructions will be posted there soon! ; ) These Fancy pants papers I used are available for pre order at the store too.
On a footnote, Scrapbukan will be celebrating National Scrapbooking Day on Saturday at Oakwood. Slots are already sold out though. Can't wait for Saturday!
