Working Mom Magazine's Scrapbook Challenge

This is really some good news!!! At about 1:00 am today, Jeff saw this e-mail from Ms. Dedet Panabi, the Editor in Chief of Working Mom Magazine and read it aloud to me! God has really been so good to us!

We are proud to announce the winner of Working Mom magazine's contest.

The winner was chosen by a board including the associate editor, art director, and brand manager, who narrowed the entries to the final 3 before I participated in the selection process.

Envelope, please --- (drumroll)

CONGRATULATIONS, PIA ZOBEL LOPEZ!

There were many GORGEOUS entries, all beautiful in their own right, but hers stood out because of the good use of color, selection of photos ("each told a story" said the associate editor and brand manager) and the design. The simple embellishments were well chosen, and well placed, so they enhanced rather than distracted from the photo.

The art director was particular impressed by the creative circle cropping, adding: "Good sense of design -- balance, proportion, and use of white space that led the eye to the most important elements."

Great job, Pia! You have won:
- a hair cut and color from Shuji Kida Salon (recently established by Hollywood stylist and Vidal Sassoon apprentice Shuji Kida)
- a set of clothes from Karimadon and style consultation with Pink magazine editor in chief, Jane Kingsu
- a pair of shoes from Schu
- a set of makeup from Makeup Forever

Dedet Reyes Panabi
Editor in Chief, Working Mom Magazine
ABS-CBN Publishing
Thank you Dedet for coming up with this challenge! That layout I made means a lot to me. I have always wanted to write about my breastfeeding experience and the challenge finally gave that oppurtunity! Thanks too to those who chose my layout!
Of course, I won't take all the credit to myself. Jeff has always been here to help me in my layouts.

Jeff, thank you for always capturing our memories! You have always been behind the camera leaving you with only several photos with Ethan. Thanks too for all the help in Photoshop, a non-techie person like me will be lost in photo editing without you! Your ideas and suggestions are always a big help! You are the MAN behind my layouts!

Sketch inspired by Jessica Sprague; materials used: Cherry Arte East of India (orange background - Henna), Tropics (flowers - Tropica), Bazzill cadstocks, 7Gypsies numero stickers, Making Memories paint, My Minds's Eye folder tab, Zig Writer and Uniball Signo pens, Sizzix Ransom dies and brad/Editing software: Adobe Photoshop CS

So many photos ... so little time

I bet you feel the same - you have tons of photos to scrap and only little time to spare! Two weeks ago, I found another way of forcing me to scrap more. I joined the bandwagon - I'm currently joining online challenges! So, ok what's the connection between scrapping more and joining challenges? Well, pretty simple - I am forced to finish a layout in specified time and encouraged by the prizes I'll get hahaha! Kidding aside, it has been working for me! I'm compelled to finish a layout, I stopped procastinating, I am able to think faster now and another benefit - I'm using my stash!!! That's one of the best news too! I have a new motto: "Kung gaano ka kabilis mag-shopping, dapat ganun ka din kabilis mag-scrap!!!" Hahaha ... makes sense, di ba?

So here are the "quickie" layouts I did the past two weeks!

Title: Friends

Ria and I joined an online team challenge. We have to make a layout using a title of a TV show. These photos are not of the best quality but I didn't want to waste the pics so I decided to scrap it!

Materials used: Cherry Arte Tropics (Tropica and Tropic Dots), Paper Salon (green base), Heidi Swapp plastic letters - courtesy of Scrapbukan, crystal blings, cardstocks, Fancy pants Biggest Board - flourish, paint, Sizzix Ransom dies, Zig Writer pen

Title: Ready, Set, Blow

The challenge was to use shapes in our layout. But we only have to use 1 star, 1 circle, 1 square and 1 rectangle. After finishing the layout, I thought of adding more embellishments and make it a spread hehehe.

Materials used: Autumn Leaves (Superstar-Powerhouse and Rockstar), Sassafras Lass Playtime (arrows-That a way), Gin X coasters (circle), Fancy Pants Biggest Board (Photo Fun), Bazill cardstock, Signo Uniball white pen, paint, Sizzix Ransom dies

Title: Christmas Memories 2004

The challenge was to use white cardstock as a background. The white cardstock must be visible by at least 50%...meaning we can't completely cover it up with patterned papers.

The photo mat is actually an envelope where I placed the Christmas cards we received during the holidays. I also included the gift tag (red) I put on Ethan's Christmas gift in this layout.

Materials used: Ki Memories Joyful Kit (courtesy of Scrapbukan), white cardstock and Zig Writer pen

The other two layouts I previously posted on Father's Day are also done as part of the challenges.
I'll keep you posted with my other layouts! In the meantime, I'll get back to scrapping!

Happy Father's Day Jeff!

To the man who takes care of our needs ... to the man who makes us laugh ... to the man who seldom thinks of his own welfare for us ... to the man we love sooooo much ... Happy Father's Day!!!

Wonder

Here's a layout I made for our Tinkering Ink kit from Scrapbukan. This layout was quite hard to assemble considering the amount of the materials must be within the P150 budget! But I love challenges and I hope that I would be able to come up with more layouts that will only require less amount of money yet doable.
I printed the photo (6"x8") on a cream cardstock - love the canvas-like look of the photo.

Title: Wonder

Materials used: Tinkering Ink Westminster (Madras and Brown Blot Dot) - courtesy of Scrapbukan, American Crafts - Greenhouse felt and foam flowers, Bazzill brown cardstock, brads, colorbox gold ink, Hero Arts stamp (dragonfly), Sakura souffle pen, Zig Writer pen, leaves sticker and fiber
